Hacking smallholder value chains: Lessons learned by Dutch entrepreneurs in Georgia and Indonesia
Businesses should not see themselves as independent entities but
rather, as embedded in a diverse and rich market full of valuable
actors. Social enterprises especially should capitalize on existing
value chain actors and integrate them into their business models in
order to breed long-lasting growth.
This is exactly what has brought Kalo, a mobile platform providing
agricultural and e-commerce services to small and medium-sized agribusinesses in emerging markets, commercial viability
and success-- and is also how Panemas brings prosperity and innovation to smallholder farmers in Indonesia, where the agriculture value chain is traditionally disconnected, fragmented, and opaque.
In this roundtable discussion Mark van den Embden Andres, (co-founder
of Kalo) and Peter Witkamp (co-founder of Panemas) will be discussing their perspectives on integrating their activities and collaborating with other players in the value chain, based on their personal experiences.
Kalo is a mobile and online farm assistant and e-commerce platform that provides small and medium-sized agribusinesses in emerging markets with better access to better goods and services, from agri inputs to loans and insurances.
