You're an international start-up seeking to co-prototype your product with a city. You're a city looking to innovate your civic processes. Sound familiar? Two sides of the same coin: civic tech innovation. In 2019, Jaclyn Youngblood from the City of Boston Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, Nadina Galle from Amsterdam-based Green City Watch, and a wide range of civic stakeholders co-developed an open-source urban tree-detection algorithm. The collaboration, supported by Mart Duitemeijer of the Netherlands Innovation Network in Boston, experimented with techniques such as rapid iteration, facilitated workshops, and creative thinking exercise to build the prototype, together.
