Systemic challenges require systemic answers. COVID-19 reinforced this need and many funders across the world are now taking a systems change approach to grow impact.
Systems change leaders struggle because they need flexible funding while it is often designed to support short-term projects with clear, measurable results, rather than collaborative approaches to create lasting change.
In response to this challenge, we distilled and validated five principles and practices that funders can adopt to better support systems change work. In collaboration with key global funders, intermediaries, and networks, we reviewed the existing literature, conducted more than 60 interviews, and surveyed over 110 systems change leaders.
In this session, we will share the principles, discuss how to put them into practice and what steps might be needed for the sector to support systems change effectively. Anne van Groningen from Gieskes-Strijbis Fonds will be in the panel with our Ashoka fellow Geert van de Veer.
